Andrew Jacob Swafford Jr., who was born to Andrew Jacob and Nancy Jane Burris Swafford, on January 8, 1931, passed away peacefully at age 95, on June 24, 2026, after a brief illness.
Mr. Swafford was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Rhoda Eaves, Ruby Allman, Willie Bell Womac and Josephine Carlton, and four brothers, RG Swafford, Noah Swafford, Dorsey Swafford and Cecil Swafford. He was also preceded in death by two nieces, six nephews, and his very special friend and travel companion, Barbara Stanley.
Mr. Swafford was born in McMinn County, TN and raised there until his teenage years when the family moved to Chattanooga. After high school graduation, Mr. Swafford served 21 months in Korea with the United States Army. Mr. Swafford was honorably discharged and began his long career at Chattanooga Royal. He went on to be elected Secretary and Treasurer of the International Molders and Allied Workers Union, where he remained employed until his retirement.
Mr. Swafford, known as Andy to his many friends and colleagues, and known as Uncle Jr. to his many nieces and nephews, loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time gardening, fishing and traveling. He played ball with the Chattanooga Royals in his younger days and did a lot of traveling with his friends and his travel companion, Barbara.
He was always willing and happy to help others and never complained. He was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and always loved watching them play.
He leaves behind to cherish precious memories, his niece and faithful caretaker, Jewayn Rayburn, and many other nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 11:15 a.m. with Pastor DJ Carlton officiating.

Andrew will be laid to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
