Betty McMahan, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Betty was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, and a caring friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her faith was a guiding part of her life, and she was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Betty spent her earlier years serving others as a crossing guard, as well as caring for children. She had a heart for people, and genuinely loved everyone she met. Her kindness, compassion, and caring nature left a lasting impression.

She found great happiness in the things she loved most—her family, her beloved dog Maggie, beautiful flowers, and gardening. Betty took joy in tending to her flowers and watching them grow, much like the love and care she gave so freely to others.

Betty shared a special and enduring love with her husband, George. Their marriage was a treasured part of her life, and after George's passing, Betty never remarried. She remained faithful to the love and memories they shared, carrying him in her heart throughout the years.

Betty's gentle spirit, loving heart, and strong faith will forever be remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, church family, and all those whose lives she touched.

She will be dearly missed, but her memory will continue to bloom like the flowers she so dearly loved.

May she rest peacefully in the presence of her Lord, reunited once again with her beloved George.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Cindy Thomas; grandson, Tyler Thomas, as well as her parents.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Tammy Robinson (Jesse); sister, Barbara Hancock, as well as her beloved four-legged friend, Maggie.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 10:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:45 p.m. with Pastor Stephen Halstead officiating.

Betty will be laid to rest in Chattanooga National Cemetery with her husband, George.
