Charles Alex Overby, 88, went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus on December 14, 2021.  Charles was a member of Bartlebaugh Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon for over 52 years.  He was employed with the Quaker Oats Company, retiring after 40 years.  Charles loved to grow vegetables in his spare time and share them with others.  He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Gladys Overby; brothers, Ivan Overby, Aaron Overby, Bert Overby, John Overby and Billy Overby; sisters, Ruth Yancey, Martha Craze, and daughter-in-law, Lynn Overby.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Overby; son, Chuck Overby; brothers, Calvin Overby and Jerry (Annie Mae) Overby; sisters, Edith Lea, Lucille Caissie and Louise Rains; great-grandchildren, Mason Gossett and Paige Collins; sister-in-law, Jewell Overby, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 3 – 8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home, Hwy 58 Chapel.  Visitation will also be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.  A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Steve Highlander and Pastor Marvin Kirkpatrick officiating.

Charles will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Gardens East.
