Donald Bruce Young passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga TN. He was 83 years old. Don was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 9, 1942. He grew up in Alabama, graduating from Valley Head High School and continued his education at Howard College and Troy State College. He proudly served in the National Guard. Don dedicated 28 years of service to the City of Chattanooga Public Works Department. He concluded his career as Chief Building Inspector and served as President of the Tennessee Building Officials Association. He was respected for his professionalism and integrity serving the city.

For more than 50 years Don was a 32° member of the Atlanta chapter of the Scottish Rite, reflecting his lifelong commitment to its principles and fellowship. In his free time, Don found satisfaction in woodworking. He enjoyed working with his hands and carried on his father’s legacy of craftsmanship. Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, consistent work ethic and love for his family.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Alice Young (nee Henson); sons, Adam Young and wife, Taylor Harvey and Nick Young; grandson, Blaine Elmore; sister, Judy Heidinger; and dear friends, Bill Livezey, Donald “Twinx” Thomasson and Dan Jefferies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anita Young, and his sister, Elizabeth Phillips.

Don will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at New McDonald Eastview Cemetery with Brother Mike Manning officiating.
