Fred S. Newton
Fred Sisson Newton, 86, of Chattanooga went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 29, 2016.
After Hardy Junior High and playing in the Knot Hole Gang, Fred began his passion of baseball, playing with various industrial leagues in the Carolinas which ultimately led him to getting his Professional Card.
His baseball career was put on hold when he joined the Air Force in 1951 but he continued playing softball for the Air-Force base team. After returning home he began his fast pitch softball career playing for Chattanooga Gas Company and Capital Motors winning 6 State Championships and playing in several World Championship tournaments.
Fred was inducted into the Tennessee ASA Softball Hall of Fame in 2008. He was also an avid bowler and worked several years for Western Union and went on to retire from Capital Motors.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Emma Newton; loving wife, Doris Ann Kendall Newton; one sister, Bernice Ellis; two brothers, William and Boyd Newton.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Fred K. (Martha) Newton, of Greensboro, N.C.; daughters, Marcy Newton, Teresa (Kenny Foley) Newton Parker, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Meredith and Grace Newton; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at 12:30 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ambrose Havey officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Emerald Ramage and the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga.
