Garland Curvin
Garland Stanley "Stan the Man" "Big Stan" Curvin of Harrison finished this race a winner October 16, 2015. He crossed the finish line surrounded by those he loved and who loved him. He was 55.
Waiting for him at the finish line are his father, Garland B. Curvin; mother, Virginia Josephine Curvin; and brother, William Michael Smedley. He is survived by his loving life partner, Karen Stampfli; his children, Zachary, Matthew, and Dylan Curvin; Chris, Quentin, and Stephanie Stampfli; sister, Linda Curvin (Jim)Davenport ; brother, Rick (Teresa) Curvin , and several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Central High School where he excelled in football, wrestling, track, and chorus. A gifted singer, he was forever grateful to Central's choral instructor, Judy Reich, for helping him find his voice. He worked for many years with Curvin Backhoe Service, carrying on the business after his father retired. He also worked briefly for the City of Chattanooga Public Works Department. Karaoke enthusiasts in the city will remember "Big Stan's Karaoke" as one of the most fun, friendly, and encouraging karaoke events anywhere.
Stan was an avid drag racer, and loved his drag racing family and "The Mopar Mofia" at Brainerd Optimist. You couldn't be around Stan for any length of time without hearing about the latest race. He was as proud of his friends' wins as his own, and a good showing against "one of the greats" was as good as a win…almost.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 4-8 P.M. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home. You may visit our guestbook at www.turnerfamilyfuneralhome.com. A graveside service will be announced and held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please consider making memorial contributions to Optimist International Club # 11020 at Optimist Club of Brainerd PO Box 8431 Chattanooga, Tennessee 37414.
Rest well, Stan the Man, then warm up the tires and pull up to the line for the next round. You did a fine job here…fine, fine job.
