Glen Herbert Jones, 91, of Harrison, TN, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. He was raised in Chattanooga, and was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1950. Glen was employed by DuPont from 1950 to 1961, and was a member of the Tennessee National Guard for 10 years. He was a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, where he received a seminary degree and became an ordained Baptist Minister. Glen also earned a Master's Degree from the University of Illinois, and a second Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He began his ministry as Pastor of Battle Creek Baptist Church in Marion County, TN, and later was Pastor of churches in Timewell, IL, Arthur, IL, Rockford, IL, Virden, IL, and Folsom, PA. Upon retiring from the ministry, he returned to Hamilton County where he taught in the Hamilton County School system for many years. Glen served as the president of the Hamilton County Education Association, and was an active member of the Harrison Ruritan Club, where he served in several capacities and spent many hours volunteering. He was also a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church for many years where he taught the Logos Sunday School Class.
Glen was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred McElhaney Jones; mother, Jennie Jones; brothers, James and Eddie, and sisters, Louise and Jean.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Mays Chadwell Jones; daughters, Sue (Michael) Dickey, Diane (Jim) Karr; step-daughter, Victoria Chadwell; grandchildren, Robin (Sam) French, Michelle (Josh) Crumley and Dylan Karr; great-grandchildren, Ella French, Connor French, Addison Crumley, Brody Crumley, Teddy Karr and Persephone Karr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58. A funeral service will follow at 1:15 p.m. in the chapel with Bruce Daugherty, Care Pastor of Woodland Park Baptist Church, officiating.
Glen will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.
