Ina "Ruth" Quarles, 91, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021, surrounded by loving family.  She was born on February 26, 1930 to the late Dovie Viola Cox in Pikeville, TN.  In her younger days, Ruth worked as a nurse's aide for Erlanger before eventually devoting herself to her four daughters full-time.  She was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Chattanooga and was an avid reader.  Ruth loved to host holidays, and was always surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fayne Benjamin Quarles; daughter, Linda Housley; mother, Dovie Viola Cox; grandson, Robert C. Jernigan, and several siblings.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Wanda K. Jernigan, Janet Quarles, and Connie Quarles; grandchildren, Steven (Carrie) Jernigan, Amanda (Edward) Berkowitz, Sheila Wilson, Tiffany (Tony) Smith, Charles Neal, Melissa Neal, Tammy White, Courtney Wood, and Heather Wood, several great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 11 – 1 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home, Hwy 58 Chapel.  A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Reverend Ken Clark officiating.

Ruth will be laid to rest with her husband, Fayne.
