Janie Mae  Gann
Janie Gann, 85, left this earth for her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and loved her church family. She was born April 30, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to John A. Davis, Greek name Loannis Athanassios Tsitsinopoulos, born in Patris, Greece and Sarah "Sally" Catherine Moore Davis, born in Attala, Mississippi. At the age of fourteen in the fall of 1946, she moved to the Chattanooga area with her mother, sister and step-father, Harve Norman, who was from this area. In the fall of 1947, she met and fell in love with her husband, Herman Richard Gann. They had five children and celebrated sixty one years together. Janie was a loving mom, grandmother great grandmother and Great-great grandmother. She was a people person who never met a stranger. She was an avid reader and could finish a bag of books from McKay's in a month. She loved working with her flower garden. Her yard was full of all kinds of plants. Mamaw Janie will be remembered for her German chocolate cakes. All her children and grand-children looked forward to them at holidays.

She is preceded in death by her parents; stepfather; husband; son, Tommy Gann; daughter-in-law, Iva Faye Gann; grandson, Dr. Wesley Eugene Hammonds, DVM; sister, Helen Eva David Haren; brother-in-law, Winfred E. Harden; nephew, Donald "Pete" Randolph.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn A. (Joel) Hammonds Daniel Moore and Thelma J. (Clifford) Wheeler; two sons, Richard L. (Cindee) Gann and Johnny J. Gann; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 11am-1pm. Service will follow in the Turner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Dotson officiating. Janie will be laid to rest beside her husband in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
