James "Jim" Buford Duggan, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Memorial Hospital. Jim was a member with perfect attendance with his church family at Cleveland Community Chapel. He loved helping people and never turned down many jobs in doing so. He was a talented man who could fix anything. Jim worked as a sheriff's deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office as a detective for many years. After starting a family, he moved on and retired from the sheet metal trade working for J.W. Brooks & Sons until their closing. He loved to farm and raise cattle and spent many years growing vegetables and baling hay. Jim was a member of the Tennessee Professional Investigators, lifetime member of the Chattanooga Rifle Club and a long time member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Duggan was also a sheet metal worker (member of the Local #5), and part of the Southern Appalachian Back Country Horsemen Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Heaton Duggan and father, Buford Emanuel Duggan; first wife, Ann C. Duggan; step-mother Ruby Duggan, mother-in-law Allene D. Vaughn and many of his closest and dearest friends.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years Jenice Vaughn Duggan who never left his side; daughters, Jamie M. Gravitte of Dayton, TN and Jennifer A. Duggan Davis of Madisonville, TN; brother, Bob (Margaret) Duggan; a niece and a nephew. His grandchildren James M. Gravitte and Sarah A. Davis he loved with all his heart and spoiled greatly.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 4 - 8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58. The memorial service will be conducted Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tazz Reid officiating. There will be visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
