Obituary

James "Chief" Perry Runyan, Jr. "Jimmy", 77, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 31, 2023, peacefully surrounded by family.  He was born on November 18, 1945 in Georgetown, TN.  Jimmy spent his younger days on the road as a truck driver.  He developed several subdivisions and R&E construction company.  He also did Fiber Optic work for AT&T for over 20 years.  Jimmy had an unmatched work ethic as he lived to provide for his family.  He loved spending his time surrounded by family and friends.  Jimmy had a passion for classic cars and drag racing.  He was driven, generous, and very well respected.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Perry Runyan, Sr. and Lilian "Savannah" Runyan, as well as his son, Scott Edward Runyan.

Jimmy is survived by his lifelong partner, Edith Runyan; daughter, Paula McDaniel (Noel); daughter-in-law, Kara Runyan; grandchildren, Tyler Hogan (Kayla), Ryan Ellis (Samantha), Kayla Brock (Emerson), James Perry Runyan, III "Jimmy"; great-grandchildren, Peyton Hogan, Maddox Hogan, Reese Ellis; siblings, Bobby Runyan (Janie), Joyce Seagle (Harold-deceased), Sue Henderson (Ron), Steve Runyan (Rhonda), Earl Runyan (Peggy-deceased), as well as many family members and friends whom he shared his life with.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58 from 3 – 7 p.m.  A celebration of life will be held on Monday, September 4, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Turner Funeral Home chapel with opening prayer by Donnie Holder, and Pastor Ronnie Davis officiating.

Pallbearers:  Frank Basadre, Shaun Lindsey, Chris Moon, Roger Marsh, Frank Thomas and John Davis

Honorary Pallbearer:  Ronnie Blaylock

Jimmy will be laid to rest in New McDonald Eastview Cemetery in Ooltewah.
