John "Toney" Lewis, 81, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, July 27, 2024, surrounded by his family.  He was of the Baptist faith and a 1960 graduate of Birchwood High School.  Toney was employed in trucking and logistics for his company, Wings Transportation, retiring in 2007.  He was a piano player all of his life and was Pastor of Eastview Chapel in Meigs County.  Toney was a member of Harrison Lodge #114, and he enjoyed dirt track racing, basketball and spending time with his family.  He was lovingly known as "Wild Cat" and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Marion "Buddy" Lewis; mother, Elsie Lewis; sister, Joyce Davis, and grandsons, Michael Newby and Mason Tyler Lewis.

Toney is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Lewis; sons, Teddy Lewis (Theresa) and JJ Lewis (Lydia); six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58.  The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Jack Rinks officiating.

Toney will be laid to rest on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
