Joseph "Joe" Trotter, 78, was taken home through the gold gates of Heaven on Monday, March 10, 2025. Joe was born on December 16, 1946 to Alfred and Lavada Trotter in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated from Central High School in 1965, and then worked at Buster Brown where he met his future wife of 57 years, Shirley. Joe was then drafted into the U.S. Army where he served until receiving an honorable discharge and awarded a Purple Heart.
Following his military service, he spent 35 years as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, Red Bank branch, until retiring in 2002. Since retirement, Joe moved to Dunlap, where he enjoyed fishing on surrounding ponds and lakes, wood working in his shop, and taking his dog, Mickey, on daily walks.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alfred and Lavada and brothers, Willard and William "Bill" Trotter.
Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Wolfe); sons, Tim Trotter (Loren Launen) and Todd Trotter; grandson, Kari Trotter; sister, Sharon Culver, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with longtime friend and neighbor, Darryl O'Steen, officiating.
Joe will be laid to rest with military honors.
