Laura T.
Mcdonald
Sep 16, 1958 — Mar 3, 2025
Laura McDonald, 66, passed to her eternal home on Monday, March 3, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 16, 1958 to John and Virginia McDonald. She was a beloved wife to her soulmate, Jack McCarty.
If anyone could find peace amongst the chaos of life, it was Laura. Her laugh filled rooms; her eyes made you feel seen.
Laura had a cup of tea, a moment, open ears, and a seat at the table for anyone in need. She knew how to listen, when to talk, when to work hard, and when to slow down. She always had the perfect words, despite how unperfect life can be.
Mothers tend to carry the heaviest load for every family, and Laura was no different.
Night school to chase her dreams of being a nurse after a day of looking after five boys, she was relentless in her effort to see her dreams come true. To prove to her family that anything was possible. She was everyone's biggest cheerleader, and the first one there when you needed a hand and always the loudest one in the room when you won.
Battling life's hardest battles, you wouldn't hear a single complaint. Just a genuine smile and excitement for a good story. Like an orchid, her favorite flower, she required less water than most to make the world a more beautiful place.
Strength has many definitions, and she was all of them.
She embodied what it means to be present. She took life in, the small moments, the awkward silences, and the hardest days.
Some run from life, others pour a cup of tea and enjoy the journey.
"It's alright, It's alright."
Laura is survived by her four sons, Richard Barrett, John Livingston, Brian McDonald and Michael McDonald; her brothers and sisters; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved so much.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with Brother Mike Manning officiating.
