Obituary

Lynda A. Brooks, 76, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025.  She was a devoted missionary, mother, and servant of the Lord.  Her life was one of unwavering faith, boundless compassion, and a deep commitment to spreading God's love across the globe.

Born with a heart full of purpose, Lynda dedicated her life to the service of others.  Alongside her mother, she traveled the world, giving bibles to those less fortunate, sharing the gospel and ministering to those in need.  Together, she and her mother formed an inseparable team, spreading hope, love and faith in some of the most remote and undeserved areas of China, Haiti, Africa, Jerusalem, and many parts of Europe.  She risked her life to share the word of God and during a trip to Tanzania, she was present during the tragic bombings that took place there.  Whether in cities or rural villages, her passion for serving the Lord and lifting others up knew no boundaries.  In Chattanooga, she was a faithful member of the Joyful Sound Church of God, where she ministered to the homeless.

A pivotal moment in Lynda's spiritual journey came when she was baptized in the Jordan river, a sacred place that deepened the connection to her faith and the mission she would carry out the rest of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Brooks, Sr; parents, Billy and Mary Alice McKinney; siblings, Billy Ray McKinney, Daniel McKinney, James McKinney, Ellen Johnson and Evelyn McKinney, as well as great-granddaughter, Hannah Cooper.

Lynda is survived by her son, Charles Dodd (Elizabeth); daughters, Mary Mullins (Jeff), Penny Satterfield (Chris) and Karen Heard (Bernard); fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank Hearth Hospice, and nurses, Krystle, Ashley and Susan G; granddaughter, Ariele Benton; special friends, Alexis Sloan, Debra Pettyjohn and Fluffy, as well as special four legged friends, Barney and Bella.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home.  A visitation will also be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor James Barker officiating.

Lynda will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Gardens East with her husband, Bob Sr.
