Mary “Janie” Upchurch, 83, left to be with Jesus after a long battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and diabetes on Monday, September 28, 2026. She was born on July 11, 1943 to Jack and Louise Hall in Streator, IL. The family moved to Tampa, FL in 1960. She met her husband, Donald Upchurch at a USO dance at MacDill AFB in December of 1962. They married in May of 1963 and traveled the world until Don retired from the Army in 1981.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald; her parents, Jack and Louise Hall, as well as her mother and father-in-law, Jim and Mary Upchurch.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Price, Donna Lowery (Charles Woody), and son, John Upchurch (Heather); granddaughters, JulieAnn Lowery Brown (Benjamin), Jesse Lowery Sharp (Logan) and Morgan Woody Fossett (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Stone, Sunny and Sorin Fossett and Lachlan Sharp; four sisters, two brothers; dear sister-in-law, Barbara Ewing (Raymond); brother-in-law, Wayne Upchurch, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful doctors for their tender care, especially Dr. Mario Mariani and staff.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Donald.
