Mildred Louise Forgey Neely, 95, of Harrison, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 1, 2026. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.
Mildred was born on June 24, 1931 in East Chattanooga. She was one of eleven children born to the late Ross Forgey and Bertha May Lowe Forgey. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Mildred attended New Bethel Baptist Church at the age of eight when it was at it’s first location on Harrison Bay Rd, which was flooded by the TVA in 1939. The old church was moved to the present location where the new building now stands. She was baptized at the age of 16 in the lake at what was known as the Rock Gates, not far from the church. Mildred helped raise many children in the area, most of who now consider her their second mother. They came to her house every morning in the summer for breakfast because she made the best chocolate gravy and biscuits. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She always made sure that she bought them all Christmas and birthday gifts.
Mildred and her husband Bobbie shared 64 years of marriage, but their relationship was so much more than that. He was her best friend, the love of her life, and her everything. The two were rarely seen without one another, and could usually be found sitting on the porch together.
Her greatest legacy will not be measured in years, possessions, or worldly accomplishments, but in the countless lives she touched and the generations of family who were blessed to call her theirs. She leaves behind lessons of faith, generosity and unconditional love. The children she helped raise, The Sunday School lessons she taught, the meals she prepared, the prayers she prayed, and the memories she created will continue to live on through the generations that follow her.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobbie Neely who passed away in January 2015; her parents; five sisters, and two brothers.
She is survived by her children, Charles Neely (Donna) of Harrison, TN, Jacky Neely (Leisa) of Birchwood, TN, Joyce Moser (Ron) of Birchwood, TN; grandchildren, Michelle Chattin, Jennifer Brooks, Emily Neely, Crystal Richardson, Amy Griffin, Holly Earhart and Amber Neely; seventeen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Reba Kaylor and Ann Grainger; brother, Larry Forgey; beloved cousins, Susan Ramsey Pauly and Tanya Wallace.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Gentiva Hospice of Cleveland, TN. All of you became very special to us.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 8740 Harrison Bay Rd, Harrison, TN 37341. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Paul Forgey and Pastor Steven Halstead officiating.
Pallbearers: Jake Gann, Ayden Neely Simmons, Tucker Griffin, Cade Richardson, Landon Earhart, Jaxson Earhart and Colby Griffin.
Please share your memories and express condolences to the family on their guestbook.
