Ray Torbett, 82, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022. Ray was born in Atlanta, moving to Chattanooga in 1986 until the mid-90's, when he and his wife, Joyce, and their sons moved back to Atlanta for several years. After losing his wife in 1999, and their son, Michael, in 2009, Ray moved to be near their other son, Mark, in Utah. There he remained the rest of his life.
Ray was a United States Air Force veteran, honorably discharged after completing his tour of duty in November of 1958. He was employed in the automotive industry for 55 years. Ray had many hobbies, including going to the movies, dancing to oldies with his wife, and listening to music. He also loved joking around and making others smile. Ray adored his sons and was very proud of them and all their accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Torbett; son, Michael Torbett; parents, William and Juanita Torbett, and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Torbett (Jennifer) and Mitch Torbett (Victoria); sisters, Mary "Billie" McAlpin (John) and June Perrywood, as well as several grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58 at 11 a.m. with Rich Norton officiating. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Ray will be laid to rest with military honors.
