Ruth L. Smith, 97, lifelong Chattanooga resident, was embraced by Jesus Christ her Lord on January 28, 2019. Ruth was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Veteran Upholstery Co. until his death in 1996. She continued running the business thereafter, focusing upon the sale of fabrics and household accents, until she was 93.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, James T. "Dude" Smith.

She is survived by her four sons, James T. (Brenda) Smith, Jr. of Chester, VA, Michael L. (Linda) Smith of Chattanooga, Daniel W. (Sharon) Smith of Chattanooga, and Joseph A. (Barbara) Smith of Chattanooga; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Hospice of Chattanooga for their support and encouragement.

Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery with a private family graveside service.
