Velma Alford, 68, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.  She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Central Baptist in the Brainerd area of Chattanooga.  Velma played the trumpet in the marching band and was on the drill squad at Brainerd High School, graduating in the class of 1972.  She was a mother of two, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of one.  Velma enjoyed bowling, throwing darts, softball, the Tennessee Vols, and gambling.  She was breast cancer survivor, but that didn't stop her from always being the life of the party!

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Varnal and Anna Alford.

She is survived by her son, Shane Summey; daughter, Tina Cadwallader; brothers, Varnal Alford and Raymond Alford; sisters, Marlene Adams, Debra Chattin and Thelma Bice; grandchildren, Chastity Cadwallader, Anna Cadwallader, Amber Cadwallader and Ben Summey, as well as great-grandchild, Justin Elliot.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58.  There will also be a visitation held on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.  A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Williams officiating.

Velma will be laid to rest in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
