Obituary


Wayne Smith, 71, passed away May 2, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area. Wayne was a member of Lakeway Baptist Church and he retired from the Hamilton County Board of Education after 20 years of service. Mr. Smith was an avid coon hunter and enjoyed gardening. He also enjoyed softball both as a coach and player.

He was preceded in death by his by his parents, Jim and Thelma Hindman Smith, Sister, Margret Smith; 2 brothers, Jimmy and Leon Smith, stepchildren; Eddie Jinnette and Dion Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Kathyrn "Kathy" Smith; son, Matthew (Christina) Smith; daughters, Reba, Laura and Donna Smith; brother, Bill (Rhonda) Smith; sisters, Freida (Paul) Tinsley and Betty Hughes; nephew; Tim Lynn; several other nieces and nephews, grandchildren; Aidan, Ansley, Jessica, Ricky, Lester, Justin, Alisha, Heather, Cody, Cassie, Bailey and Nikki.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 2-8 pm at Lakeway Baptist Church. There will also be visitation on Saturday at the church from 10 am until the time of service. Funeral will be at noon on Saturday with Ministers Robert Stokes and Steve Moore officiating. Mr. Smith will be laid to rest in the Silverdale Presbyterian Church Cemetery next to his son, Thomas Edward Jinnette.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Scotty Wheeler, Rodney Proffitt, David Adams, Burt Shurette, Stanley Johnson and Lamar Raines.
