William Slaughter

William Avery Slaughter, 81, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and member of Harrison Masonic Lodge 114 and Alhambra Shrine. He was a US Army veteran having served in Korea and Vietnam and received the Bronze Star Medal. He retired from Planters after 20 years of service and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Trudy Riddle; sons, Avery and Claude Slaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Slaughter of Harrison; son, Charles "Rory" Slaughter of Panama City, Florida; daughters, Diane (Billy) Stanley of Harrison and Lynn (Scott) Womack of Birchwood; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 6, 2015 from 11 a.m. until noon at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home. Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend David Evans officiating. Interment will follow.
