C. Richard Smith, Jr., 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Richard passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Chattanooga on August 29, 1942.  Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of nine years old at Avondale Baptist Church and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church at the time of his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Ruth Smith; sister, Carolyn Sanders; brother, David Smith, and great-granddaughter, Hosanna Welsh.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Lily Smith; daughter, Julie Mader (Jeff); granddaughters, Lauren Welsh (Billy) and Jessica Sierra, as well as great-grandson, William Welsh, III.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home @ Hwy 58.  A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1 p.m. with Pastor Todd McElyea officiating.

Richard will be laid to rest in McInturff Cemetery in Birchwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 5479 Hwy 58, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
